AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. Calvin Wilson Nance, Sr., 86, entered into rest on Monday, January 4, 2010. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 8, 2010 in the Lumpkin Road Chapel of Elliott Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Tommy Coe officiating. Burial followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Mr. Nance was preceded in death by his wives, Virgie Tussey Nance, Mamie Pearl Nance; children, Calvin Nance, Jr., Sue Odenwalt and grandchildren, Steven Odenwalt and Martha Jean Loman.
Mr. Nance was a Master Sergeant in the US Army serving in WWII and the Korean Conflict. He retired after over 20 years of service and continued to serve as an instructor at Ft. Gordon for 22 years retiring in 1988. He was a member of the Thomson Moose Lodge, Eagle Lodge 1197, VFW 649 and American Legion 178. He was a good man and will be missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by children, Cindy Brasington, Mark Ellory "Spanky" Nance, Michael Dale Nance, Joe Peck, III, Jane Reyes, and Betty Coleman, all of Augusta; grandchildren, Kirk Odenwalt, David Curtis Keel, Jr., Michael Dale Nance, Jr., Rena Lynn Cusino, Misty Lee Luda; nine great grandchildren; sisters, Maureen Alexander and Doris Elles, both of Lexington, North Carolina; several nieces and nephews and special friend, Rhonda Thorne.
Elliott Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
