Dearing Town Council

McDuffie County Probate Judge Valerie Burley swore in newly-elected and re-elected members of Dearing Town Council and the mayor during the Jan. 11 council meeting.

Mayor Sean Kelley made committee appointments: Allen Axon will continue to serve as mayor pro-tem, Judson Story will serve as representative of emergency services, Mike McTier will represent Dearing at the recreation department and Bobby Aldred will be in charge of "clean community" responsibilities.

Mayor Kelley thanked Daisy Ansley for her service during her eight-year tenure. He said Mrs. Ansley "certainly will be missed" by the town council.

"Thank you. I wish y'all continued success," Mrs. Ansley said. "Y'all keep going with everything and don't slow down."

Mrs. Ansley did not seek re-election to the council, stating she was ready to take a break.

McDuffie County Board of Education

The McDuffie County Board of Education members selected their chairman and vice-chairman for 2010 during the Jan. 12 planning session.

Super District 1 representative Georgia Hobbs was selected to continue as board chairwoman and District 7 representative Rick McCorkle continues as vice-chairman.

The motion was made by Ella Mae Samuels, seconded by Bob Smith and passed unanimously. Dorothy Hart was not present to vote.

Board members also unanimously approved Superintendent Jim LeBrun's recommendation to keep Robert E. Knox as the board's attorney.
