Mr. Sylvester Mathews
DEARING, Ga. - Mr. Sylvester Mathews, 49 of
Dearing, entered into rest January 13, 2010.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Saturday,
January 16, 2010 at the Beggs Funeral Home Chapel
with Rev. Ron Fearneyhough officiating. Interment
followed in Westview Cemetery with full military
honors.
Mr. Mathews was a native of Greenwood, Mississippi but lived
in Dearing since 1995. He was retired from the U.S. Army as a
Sergeant First Class. Mr. Mathews was a member of Gracewood
United Methodist Church, a minister and a prophet. He was a
wonderful and loving husband. Mr. Mathews loved serving others
and enjoyed seeing lives changed by our Lord Jesus Christ.
Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Jennifer Gale Mathews;
son, Derrick Randale and fiance', Natoya Stanley, Greenwood,
MS; mother, Rosie Byrd, Greenwood, MS; brother, Wade Byrd,
Minneapolis, MN; sisters, Linda Simmons, Minneapolis, MN,
Priscilla Dixon, Covington, Rose Mary Gatlins, Greenwood, MS,
Terra Smith, Memphis, TN, Sharon Cotton, Covington, Ga., Loretta
McQueen, Covington, Ga. and Fannie Journey, Greenwood, MS;
and two grandchildren; Vanja Stanley and Shakeria, Stanley; god
sister, Gloria Boyd, Greenwood, MS.
He was preceded in death by his father, Wade Byrd and his
biological father, Reb Thomas.
Beggs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
