Briarwood falls again to visiting Prep team

For the second time this season, the Briarwood Academy Buccaneers have fallen to Augusta Prep on the hardwood.

The latest setback for the Bucs was a 61-28 loss in non-Region 1-A play, which Augusta Prep handed to them when they visited the Briarwood gym last Friday night.

The Bucs were outscored in each of the four periods and were never able to score more than nine points themselves in each period.

At halftime, Augusta Prep led 35-14.

Briarwood was led by Thomas Lynam and Trey Stadler -- both of whom scored eight points each. Other Bucs scoring in the game included: Dalton Reese, 4, Taylor Smith, 3, and Tyler Daniel, 2.

In another weekend game, the Buccaneers traveled to Twiggs Academy last Saturday where they competed in another tough region game. They ended up getting a 64-46 win to up their record to 4-0 in region play this season.

Briarwood led 26-19 at halftime and then outscored Twiggs in both the third and fourth periods to capture the all-important win.

The Buccaneers were led in scoring by Stadler, a senior, who tossed in a season-high 27 points. He was followed by Lyman, another senior, who scored a season-high 14 points.

Other players scoring in the game for Briarwood Academy included: Reese, 10, Ryan Nelson, 7, Steven Gunn, 4 and Daniel, 2.
