Even with junior point guard Maria Celeste Johnson back playing following a recent injury, the Lady Buccaneers of Briarwood Academy couldn't bump off Augusta Prep in basketball last Friday night.
It wasn't like the Lady Bucs didn't give it their best effort, though. Unfortunately for them, the end result was a 39-32 loss at the hands of the visitors from Martinez at the Briarwood gym.
Earlier in the season, the Lady Bucs defeated Augusta Prep.
Cold shooting from the floor in the first half led to the downfall of Briarwood Academy in the latest hardwood game between the two schools. The Lady Bucs only managed to hit six points in each of the first two periods. By halftime, they trailed by eight points, 20-12.
Briarwood came roaring back in the third period to outscore Augusta Prep 16-9, but then they went cold in the fourth and final period, hitting only four points.
Johnson led the Lady Buccaneers with 8 points. She was followed by Brittini Phelps with 7, Morgan Reese, 6, Maggie Keene, 4, Emily Henderson, 3 and Tiffany Pate, 2.
