Drivers suffer minor injuries in collision

A collision between a semi rig and a pickup truck slightly injured both drivers near Dearing on Monday afternoon.

Trooper 1st Class Rich Fishel of the Georgia State Patrol post in Grovetown identified those injured as Monika Ostrander, of Lokey Road, Dearing, and Donald Swiney, of Thomson.

Ms. Ostrander received a chest injury from the air bag in her Ram pickup, and Mr. Swiney received an elbow injury. Both were treated at the scene by personnel with the McDuffie County Emergency Medical Services and firefighters/first responders with the McDuffie County Fire/Rescue Services. Neither of them went to the hospital.

The mishap occurred at the intersection of Luckey's Bridge and Hobbs roads shortly before 5 p.m.

Mr. Swiney, driving a Volvo truck along Hobbs Road said he stopped when he got to the stop sign of the intersection. He then pulled out onto Luckey's Bridge Road and was hit in the side by Ms. Ostrander's pickup, Trooper Fishel said.

The trooper said he charged Mr. Swiney with failure to yield at a stop sign.
