More than 200 teachers from 12 counties converged in Thomson in January for two workshops, both of which were held at Thomson Presbyterian Church.
On Jan. 22, Paul Ricconmini, a professor at Clemson University, presented Building Strategies for Differentiating Mathematics Instruction.
The focus of the workshop was on improving the education of students at risk for academic failure and students with disabilities, said Mychele C. Rhodes, the federal programs director of McDuffie County Schools.
Dr. Rhodes said 26 educators from McDuffie County participated in the workshop, which was sponsored by the Central Savannah River Area Regional Educational Service Agency.
"Small counties can't afford to have the program, so we pooled our resources to bring it for them," said Sam McGaw, the professional learning coordinator for the agency.
On Jan. 26, Stephen Barkley led a leadership institute training that was designed to assist instructional coaches and principals.
Dr. Barkley has written a book on the subject and is a consultant and educator for Performance Learning Systems Inc.
Dr. Rhodes said McDuffie County educators attended that workshop.
