Trey Stadler and Dalton Reese helped the Buccaneers of Briarwood Academy to a thrilling 46-45 victory over the visiting Thomas Jefferson Academy Jaguars in a key Region 1-A basketball game at Briarwood last Tuesday night, Feb. 2.
The victory gave the Bucs of head coach Bo Fleming the No. 1 seed going into this week's Region 1-A Boys' Basketball Tournament being held at Briarwood Academy. The tourney began Tuesday and will continue through Friday. Complete coverage of the Briarwood games will be provided in a story in next week's edition of The McDuffie Mirror .
In the game against Thomas Jefferson, the Buccaneers outscored the Jaguars 14-10 during the fourth period, which proved to be the difference in the outcome of the game. Both teams experienced trouble from the free-throw line with Briarwood hitting only 7 of 13 shots, while the Jaguars connected on 7 of 16 such shots.
Stadler, a senior, scored 14 points, while Reese, a sophomore, tossed in 10 points. Other players scoring in the game for Briarwood included: Tyler Daniel, 9, Blake Sowell, 5, Ryan Nelson, 4, Thomas Lynam, 2 and Steven Gunn, 2 points.
Aside from his impressive scoring performance, Stadler also yanked down 21 rebounds. Reese, meanwhile, had four rebounds and two steals, while Daniel and Nelson each pulled down four rebounds.
