Woman is injured when car hits trees

A Thomson woman was injured after she lost control of her car and slammed into some trees on Cedar Rock Road in McDuffie County last Friday morning.

Sgt. Ritchie Howard of the Georgia State Patrol post in Grovetown identified the victim as Shantay Gilmore, of Rock House Road. Ms. Gilmore's 2-year-old daughter, who was a passenger, was not injured.

Ms. Gilmore was treated at the scene by personnel with the McDuffie County Emergency Medical Services and firefighters/first responders with the McDuffie County Fire/Rescue Services. She was taken by ambulance to the emergency room at McDuffie Regional Medical Center in Thomson.

The child later was taken by relatives to the local hospital to be checked for precautionary measures.

Sgt. Howard said the wreck happened about three miles from the city limits of Thomson about 11:30 a.m.

Ms. Gilmore was traveling eastbound in a 2005 Suzuki, stuck a puddle of water in the roadway, lost control and went down a slight embankment before crashing into some trees.

Ms. Gilmore was charged with driving without a license, violation of the child restraint law and driving too fast for conditions, according to Sgt. Howard.
