An 18-year-old Warrenton man was taken into custody on drug charges in Thomson last week.
Investigator Lt. Scott Whittle of the Thomson Police Department identified the suspect as Gabriel Jamal Brooks, of the 300 block of Pine Avenue. Mr. Brooks, who was arrested Feb.17, was charged with two counts of Violation of the Georgia Controlled Substances Act for possession of cocaine with intent to distribute and possession of cocaine with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a housing project.
After being arrested at a residence on the 300 block of Mendel Avenue by Thomson Police Officer Josh Caston about 4:30 p.m., Mr. Brooks was taken to the McDuffie County Law Enforcement Center.
Officer Caston, according to Lt. Whittle, obtained verbal consent from the person living at the residence to conduct a search. Several items were discovered during the search, including a box of plastic sandwich bags, a razor with residue of cocaine on it and a pill bottle that contained a white substance which field tested as cocaine.
The arrest was made following a formal complaint by an official with the Thomson Housing Authority.
