WARRENTON, Ga. -- A 44-year-old Augusta man died in a snow-related wreck on Interstate 20 in Warren County on Saturday, Feb. 13.
Warren County Coroner Paul Lowe identified the victim as Robert H. Norman, of Tanglewood Drive. Mr. Lowe said Mr. Norman, who was a passenger in a vehicle that left the roadway, overturned and struck several trees, was pronounced dead at the scene about 45 minutes after the crash occurred.
Mr. Norman, who had been employed as a truck driver with Waste Management, Inc. for more than 16 years, was riding with his wife, Veronica at the time of the mishap near mile marker 165 shortly after 6:15 a.m., according to authorities.
Mrs. Norman, who like her husband was trapped in the wreckage, had to be freed from the vehicle by rescue personnel from Warren and McDuffie counties. Firefighters/first responders and ambulance personnel from both counties also rendered assistance. Mrs. Norman complained of back pain and other injuries and was taken to the Medical College of Georgia Hospital in Augusta.
The fatality, the first one to occur in Warren County this year, was investigated by a trooper with the Georgia State Patrol post in Grovetown.
Funeral services for Mr. Norman, a native of Lincoln County, were held on Friday, Feb. 19 at Ebenezer Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Augusta with Pastor Ronald Wright officiating. Burial was in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
