Court cases

Several defendants appeared in McDuffie County Superior Court last Monday and pleaded guilty to various misdemeanor offenses.

In addition, many of them appearing before Toombs Judicial Circuit Superior Court Chief Judge Roger W. Dunaway, Jr. also waived jury trials. Several other defendants, meanwhile, had their cases dismissed by the district attorney's office for various reasons.

According to records filed in the McDuffie County Superior Court Clerk's Office, the following defendants entered guilty pleas and were sentenced:

Solomon Mandrell Grier, Violation of the Georgia Controlled Substances Act (VGCSA) for possession of marijuana, 12 months probation, fined $500 and ordered to pay court costs;

Edwin Carmine Esposito, pointing or aiming a gun at another, six months probation, fined $250 and ordered to pay court costs;

Isaac Martin, Jr., criminal trespass, 12 months probation, fined $400, 30 hours of community service, ordered to stay off the premises of Walmart and to pay court costs;

Nicholas Lyles Bacon, VGCSA for possession of marijuana, 12 months probation, fined $500, 40 hours of community service and ordered to pay court costs;

Chequita A. Hall, theft by taking, sentenced under the Georgia First Offender Act to 12 months probation, fined $500, 50 hours of community service, ordered to stay off the premises of Walmart, ordered to pay restitution and to pay court costs;

Fatia Nikita Johnson, theft by taking, sentenced under the Georgia First Offender Act to 12 months probation, fined $500, 50 hours of community service, ordered to stay off the premises of Walmart, ordered to pay restitution and court costs;

Shanarit Latee Carter, two counts of obstruction on a law enforcement officer, sentenced to time already served in jail on the first offense and 12 months probation on the second count and ordered to pay court costs;

Shauntia Monique Dawson, obstruction on a law enforcement officer, 12 months probation, fined $500, 30 hours of community service and ordered to pay court costs;

Mack James Patterson, driving under the influence less safe and driving while license suspended or revoked, 12 months probation, 75 hours confinement in jail, fined $750, 30 days of community service as to that particular count; while on the other count, he was sentenced to 12 months probation, fined $500 and ordered to pay courts costs. He also had his license plate confiscated;

William Christopher Thomas, keeping a disorderly house, 12 months probation, fined $250, 20 hours of community service and ordered to pay court costs;

Michael Joseph Puthoff, disorderly conduct, nine months probation, fined $250, 20 hours of community service and ordered to pay court costs; and

Pamela Denise Wheeler, simple battery, sentenced under the Georgia First Offender Act to 12 months probation, fined $300, 30 hours community service and ordered to pay court costs.
