The newly-formed Main Street McDuffie committee would like to bring a wee bit of good luck to Thomson this week by turning downtown Thomson green. They invite any person, group, club or business to adopt a lamp post and decorate it with clovers, leprechauns and anything Irish or anything green.
"We just want to decorate the streets for St. Patrick's Day," Bridgett Paulson said.
To participate, send an email to email@example.com, or visit the Thomson-McDuffie Chamber of Commerce office on Main Street. Mrs. Paulson said Tuesday that four lampposts had already been claimed and should be decorated by the end of the week.
Mrs. Paulson said she encourages everyone to get involved and form a little "friendly competition," with the possibility of turning others green with envy.
The Irish landscape will coincide with the city's first Second Saturday event, which is themed for St. Patrick's Day and will include green beer, green beads and Irish music.
Second Saturday is from 6-11 p.m March 13.
