McDuffie County officials are searching for a new finance director, again.
Darlow Maxwell, who has served in that capacity for the past three months, resigned the position last week, citing personal and health issues, according to McDuffie County Manager Don Norton.
Mr. Maxwell's last day on the job is Friday.
He and his wife plan to move to the Albany, Ga., area to be closer to family, the county manager said.
"We regret hearing this news," Mr. Norton said. "Darlow has served us well in the short period of time that he has been with us."
Mr. Norton noted that he and commissioners wish Mr. Maxwell well.
Commissioners were made aware of Mr. Maxwell's decision during an executive session to discuss a personnel matter after the March 16 commission meeting.
Mr. Maxwell took the place of Jamie Sikes, who had served in that position for only six weeks before resigning to return to the private sector.
Prior to accepting the job with McDuffie County, Mr. Maxwell had served as the city accountant/chief financial officer for the City of Doraville in Doraville, Ga.
Before landing that job, he also worked as director of finance for the Jasper County Board of Commissioners in Monticello, Ga. In addition, Mr. Maxwell also had served as finance director for the Lee County Board of Commissioners in Leesburg, Ga. He worked there from 1999-2006.
From 1973-1984, Mr. Maxwell, who has a bachelor's degree in business administration and accounting, worked as a treasury agent with the U.S. Internal Revenue Service.
He served with the U.S. Coast Guard from 1967-1971 and was aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Sebago in Vietnam during 1969.
