Bulldogs pick up 6th soccer win of season

Jay Bieltz scored a pair of goals, and teammate Justin Bettrous tallied one to lead the Thomson High School Bulldogs to a 3-2 soccer victory over the Baldwin Braves at the Thomson field last Friday night.

It marked Thomson's sixth win of the season to go with two losses and a tie.

The Bulldogs were scheduled to have played host to Richmond Hill in another key Region 3-AAA game Saturday.

Results of that game, however, were not available before press time.

Coverage of that game, as well as two more games this week, will be provided in next week's sports section.

Aside from Bieltz and Bettrous' superb performances on the offensive side of things, another player who had a fine game was sophomore goalkeeper Jonathan Atkins, who recorded 12 saves against the Baldwin Braves.

In addition to Bettrous' goal, he also was credited with a save, as was teammate Marguis McGahee.

The Bulldogs will travel to Hinesville this Friday to tangle with the Liberty County Panthers in another big region game.

They will return home on Saturday to play host to the Washington County Golden Hawks. Game time is set for 1:30 p.m.
