Girls golf team lost players, coach

Rebuilding means having to start from nearly the beginning when it comes to the Lady Bulldogs' golf team.

They lost two of their top players, Rebecca Goldman and Sara Blackmon-Hughes, to graduation. Both are now in college.

The team also lost its longtime coach, John Barnett. He and his wife, Kim, are expecting a baby soon.

This year's team, which has yet to compete in a tournament, consists of only two players, junior Grace Blackmon-Hughes, Sara's younger sister and freshman newcomer Georgia McAlister.

Both Blackmon-Hughes and McAlister "have been working hard," according to newly named head coach Chris Hodges, who has been coaching the boys' team for several years. He now dubs as coach of both golf teams.

"I'm actually enjoying working with both the girls' and boys' golf teams," said coach Hodges. "Even though we don't have the players we had last year on the girls' team, I believe we'll fair OK this season."
