Cleanup campaign precedes Mayfest

The annual Clean Community Campaign in Dearing will be Saturday, April 24 just in time for Mayfest and the town's centennial celebration.

Large trash dumpsters will be on the lot behind the fire/ambulance sub station in downtown Dearing from 8 a. until 3 p.m. Area residents may dump any trash free of charge. An ID is required to validate proof of residency in and around the Dearing area.

No hazardous materials, paint, batteries or tires will be accepted. The dumpsters will be categorized for trash, wood and metal. Large items, such as discarded furniture, appliances and building scraps, must be broken down into 3 ft. by 3 ft. by 3 ft. pieces.

Someone will be available to assist those who need help unloading their trash.

Town council members will be picking up litter along all the main roadways and at Eubank Park that day, and are asking volunteers to join them.

"If you get a lot of people involved, you'd be surprised at how much fun you have," said councilmember Bobby Aldred, who is heading up the clean up effort.

Town clerk Judy Reeves said free 30-gallon trash bags, cleaning gloves and hand sanitizer will be available to participants.
