The Pine Needle Garden Club held its regular monthly meeting, March 9, 2010, at the home of Jeanie Joesbury. Delicious refreshments were served prior to the meeting by the hostess.
President Frankie Darden called the meeting to order. The devotion was given by Kathy Jopling. New officers for the new year were installed by Billie Thomas. She thanked those who had served previously for work well done. The new officers are: Frankie Darden, president; Paige Cochran, vice president; Jackie Dupree, secretary; and Jeanie Joesbury, treasurer.
A business meeting followed. The secretary read the minutes and they were approved. The treasurer's report was given. Arrangement winner for the year was Bunnie Walden and Specimen winner for the year was Lucie Wills. A report on Camellia Day was given by Bunnie Walden.
Special thanks were given to all for the hard work done by the members. Garden tips were given by Claire Harbeson. It is time to divide bulbs, prune fall blooming shrubs. Members discussed other tips and care of shrubs, plants and lawn. An interesting tip was to use sugar as a weed killer on lawns.
President Darden presented plans for the new year with schedules of arrangement title, hostesses, and judges for each month. The scrapbook for the past year was presented by Lucie Wills. The club thanked Lucie for making the scrapbook. It will be given to last year's president, Becky Jones.
It was reported that the club has been asked by the City to participate in trash pickup on Saturday, March 27. Many clubs and organizations will be participating to clean up Thomson and McDuffie County roadsides. The club agreed to participate and will meet at the assigned sit eon March 27 at 9 a.m.
Billie Thomas gave a thank you from Claire Russell from The Home Place. Applications for Wildlife Habitation Certification were given to those interested Other business matters were discussed. The meeting was dismissed with the Garden Club Prayer.
