Open mic event needs performers

Anyone who can carry a tune is encouraged to bring their bucket to Second Saturday in downtown Thomson on Saturday, May 8 for Open Mic Night.

"We'd love for any local talent who wants to get exposure to come out and let us hear them," said organizer Jenny Lindsey.

The event is sponsored by Main Street McDuffie, and will be an extension to the McDuffie Arts Council's Arts in the Alley on Journal Street that same day. Ms. Lindsey said they will use the same stage and sound system as the performers of Arts in the Alley.

Everyone is encouraged to bring their lawn chairs and coolers and "just come hang out" on Journal Street from 5-9 p.m.

Although all ages are welcome to the event, baby-sitting will be available for a fee at Y130 for parents who want a date all to themselves.

Anyone interested in performing or volunteering can visit the MainStreetMcDuffie Facebook page, or call the Thomson Chamber of Commerce office at (706) 597-1000.

Future Second Saturday events scheduled are a Bleeding Counterfeit concert in June, a beach bash in July, the Taste of Thomson in August, a dinner theater in September and Jack-o-lanterns on Journal in October.
