Devils win region track title

WARRENTON, Ga. -- The Warren County High Screaming Devils have captured the Region 4-A Track and Field Championship.

The feat was accomplished during the region track meet hosted by Taliaferro County over a three-day period. The honor was actually bestowed to team members last Monday. They received a beautiful trophy, which currently is showcased in the office of Warren County High School.

The Screaming Devils accumulated a total of 194 points to lay claim to this year's region track title. Hancock Central of Sparta finished runners-up.

Several Warren County tracksters will be participating in the Class A track and field events in Albany later this week.

Warren County finished events in the following way:

400 - Meters -- Ric Jones, fifth place; and Kailip Allen, sixth place;

100 -- Meter Dash -- Jacorbin Reynolds, first place and Darius Jenkins, seventh place;

200 -- Meter Dash -- Jacorbin Reynolds, first place and Darius Jenkins, third place;

800 -- Meter Run -- Cedric Bacon, fourth place and Jaquan Jackson, sixth place;

110 -- Meter High Hurdles -- Jabari Wilson, first place and Edricus Williams, third place;

300 -- Meter Low Hurdles -- Edricus Williams, first place and Jabari Wilson, second place;

1600 -- Meter Run -- Alonzo Benton, second place and Stanley Johnson, fifth place;

3200 -- Meter Run -- Alonzo Benton, second place;

400 -- Meter Relay -- Warren County team finished runners-up behind Twiggs County. The WCHS team consisted of the following runners: Shaquille Thomas, Darius Jenkins, Kailip Allen, Jacorbin Reynolds and alternates Jaquon Jackson and Steve Burley; WCHS's other team consisting of Greg Howard, Steve Burley, Damian Johnson and Ric Jones finished seventh;

1600 -- Meter Relay -- WCHS finished runners-up behind Hancock Central. The WCHS team consisted of the following runners: Jacorbian Reynolds, Kailip Allen, Jaquon Jackson and Alonzo Benton. The second WCHS team consisting of: Greg Howard, Cedric Bacon, Larickus Wright and Antron Gilbert, finished seventh;

Triple Jump -- Tay Erwin, first place with a distance of 43 feet 4.5 inches; and Shaquille Thomas, third place;

Long Jump -- Jacorbin Reynolds, first place and Tay Erwin, second place;

High Jump -- Tay Erwin, second place and Jabari Wilson, fourth place;

Discus -- Mark Cosby, third place and Cortez Wentz, seventh place; and

Shot Put -- Mark Cosby, first place with a distance of 41 feet and 11 inches; and Frank Ivey, seventh place.
