Seven baseball players at Thomson High School have been selected to the first and second 2010 All-Region baseball teams, including senior third baseman Cody Ewest who was named Player of The Year .
In addition, first year Thomson head coach Jason Osborn also was honored. Coach Osborn was named Coach of The Year .
The selections were made by coaches within Region 3-AAA. The selections were announced last Friday by Thomson assistant baseball head coach Aaron Hall.
Those named to the First Team included:
Abram Cartledge, a junior, who pitches and plays first base;
Nick Rau, a junior, who pitches and plays shortstop;
Will Tankersley, a junior, who plays leftfield; and
Dontavis Brown, a junior, who pitches, plays centerfield and is a reserve shortstop.
Two other Thomson players were named to the Second Team. They were Drake Smallwood, a senior, who plays right field and Andy Grimaud, a sophomore, who pitches and plays first base.
Ewest said he felt honored to have been named Player of The Year .
"It's very nice to be honored like this," said Ewest, who had driven in 30 runs and socked eight homeruns prior to the Bulldogs going into the Georgia Class AAA quarterfinals against Gainesville on Tuesday. "This is something I'll always remember."
Coach Osborn said he was humbled to have been named Coach of The Year .
"It's a very humbling experience to be honored in such a way by your peers," said Coach Osborn. "It certainly wouldn't be possible without a good team of players and two fine assistant coaches who help me a lot."
