The Tri-County Retired Educators Association met for the last time this school year on Thursday, May 13, at 10:30 a.m. in the Georgia Room of White Columns Inn in Thomson with 21 members present.
Valerie Marshall presided.
Devotional for the day, "Parable of the Pencil," was given by Jan McTier followed with prayer.
Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved and the treasurer's report given. Becky Smith, treasurer, reminded everyone that dues for 2010-2011 are now payable - $12, and may be remitted to her at 3270 Ponderosa Lane, Thomson, Ga. 30824.
The annual state convention was held in Macon on May 4, 5, 6. Delegates were Valerie Marshall and Geraldine Reid. Geraldine gave the report. Barbara Wilcher also attended the convention.
Committee reports were given. Membership for the past year was 109 members. Neurology Committee reported the death of Bruce Blasingame.
Scholarship Committee reported that no students from Warren County applied.
Several items from the recent legislature that affect education were reported.
A planning session was held to set dates and possible programs for 2010-2011. Since Area XII meeting is scheduled for September 2, our meeting will be delayed one week to September 9.
Valerie made several presentations for assistance given her during the past year.
Jan McTier gave the blessing which was followed by a light lunch with food provided by members.
