Authorities still probing shooting

Local authorities still have made no arrest in connection with last month's shooting of a 19-year-old man at an apartment complex on the outskirts of Thomson.

"We're still trying to put it all together," McDuffie County Sheriff's Department Investigator Larry Adaway said last Wednesday. "We've got some leads, but we haven't made any arrest at this time."

Investigator Adaway said he anticipates an arrest in the case sometime soon.

"I can't say just when right now, but I feel like somebody will be charged with this shooting," he said during an interview with The McDuffie Mirror .

The investigator said it still is unknown what the motive was or whether the shooting was linked to two previous calls that deputies responded to earlier in that area.

At least one person was detained and questioned about the shooting, but later released, Investigator Adaway said.

Dontavious Dunn, of Washington Place Apartments, was wounded in the right lower back by a single shot fired at him from a .9mm handgun shortly after 11 p.m. on Wednesday, May 19 near where he lived at the apartment complex. The apartment complex is located off Old Washington Road.

Mr. Dunn, a cook at Burger King in Thomson, was treated at the scene by local medical personnel before being flown by helicopter to the Medical College of Georgia Hospital in Augusta. He is now recuperating at home.

Anyone with information about the shooting should contact Investigator Adaway at 706-595-2040.
