Mr. Alex A. Hobbs
ST. MARKS, Fla. - Mr. Alex A. Hobbs, age 87, died
peacefully early Monday morning, June 28, 2010 at Hospice
House after a short illness.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Gazzie Hobbs.
Prior to moving to St. Marks, he was raised and lived in
Thomson, where he farmed, raised cattle, owned two grocery
stores, ran a grist mill and also drove a school bus. In 1962,
he purchased Shell Island Fish Camp and moved his family to
St. Marks but still retained his property in Georgia. He was
fortunate to have his son, daughter and their families residing
at Shell Island with him all those years. He operated Shell
Island until 1988 when he turned it over to his son. He was
a St. Marks City Commissioner for 21 years and held the seat
of Mayor for a number of years. He also owns the St. Marks
Restaurant. He was an active member of the St. Marks First
Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at 10
a.m. at St. Marks First Baptist Church. (business casual dress
- no suits).
Bevis Funeral Home, Harvey-Young Chapel in
Crawfordville, FL is in charge of arrangements.
He is also survived by a son, Allen (Ruthie), a daughter,
Gail Field (David) a nephew-like-a-son, Ken Hobbs (Phyllis);
four grandchildren; Jimmy Bevis (Sherie), Brian Hobbs
(Samantha), Alana Wolhrab (Dan), Christina Williams (Gulf
Breeze, FL) and three great-grandchildren, Emily Bevis, Jon
Wolhrab and Rick Williams. Also his extended family known
as the 'camping gang'.
