Deacon Herman "Johnny" Cowins, Jr.
THOMSON, Ga. - Celebration of Life Service for Deacon
Herman "Johnny" Cowins, Jr., 65, of Thomson, was held
on Thursday, July 1, 2010, at 1 p.m. at Springfield Baptist
Church, Thomson, with Pastor, Rev. F. D. Favors, eulogist,
and Rev. Michael Thomas, presiding. Interment was in
Westview Cemetery, Thomson.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for everyone to please
make donations in memory of Deacon Herman "Johnny"
Cowins, Jr.," to Springfield Baptist Church Scholarship or
Springfield Baptist Church Faith Fund. Donations may be
mailed to P.O. Box 276, Thomson, GA 30824, or delivered to
the church located at 523 M.L.K., Jr. Street N.E., Thomson,
GA.
Survivors include his wife, Emmie Joyce Cowins, Thomson;
three daughters, Christy (Dennis) Bowens, Eastpoint, Tara
Cowins, Douglasville, and Shantell (Kenneth) Crockett,
Thomson; four sons, Jeffrey (Kimberly) Cowins, Accokeek,
MD, Alden (Tia) Jackson, Jonathan Cowins, and Jaye Marion
Cowins, all of Thomson; a sister, Thelma (Leroy) Roberts,
Thomson; two brothers, Rev. Roy M. (Betty) Cowins, Tulsa,
OK, and Melvin (Catherine) Cowins, Thomson; six sistersin-
law, Helen Smith, Augusta, Betty McNeal, Clemenette
Bentley, Elsie Bentley, all of Thomson, Rena Bentley,
Panama City, FL, and Mary (Herbert) West, Columbia, MD;
a brother-in-law, Jacob (Rosa) Bentley, Clearwater, FL; 11
grandchildren, Kenneth Crockett, Jr., Augusta, Erek Cowins,
Gabrielle Cowins, both of Accokeek, MD, NiKosha Hudson,
Jaylah Jackson, Jalen Jackson, Marquavious Williams, Davon
Crockett, Kenyarie Crockett, all of Thomson, Lenzie Archer,
III, and Brittany Bowens, both of Eastpoint; two aunts, Ida
Fountain, and Daisy Howard, both of Atlanta; one uncle,
James Rogers, Atlanta; a host of nieces, nephews, other
relatives and friends.
Thomson Funeral System was in charge of arrangements.
