Camp meeting begins today at Mt. Moriah

Interdenominational camp meeting services will convene for the 183rd year tonight at 8 at Mt. Moriah Campground in Matthews.

Evangelists Bobby and Sharon Clark, of Red Bay, Ala., will preach through Sunday.

Mt. Moriah veterans The Sammy Glass Family, of Decatur, Tenn., will be leading worship at the camp again this year. Chris Glass will be preaching in Monday's service. The Glass family has ministered at Mt. Moriah camp meetings for nearly 20 years.

Carla Munds and the gospel group Redemption, of Lumberton, N.C., will be ministering at the camp Tuesday through Thursday, July 20-22.

The first camp meeting at Mt. Moriah was held under a brush arbor in 1828, according to a history published in The Jefferson Reporter in 1969, and congregations have been gathering annually under tabernacles there since 1830.

Mt. Moriah is about 8 miles east of Wrens. To get to the camp, take Hwy. 88 from Wrens to Campground Road. Turn left and follow the signs to Mt. Moriah United Methodist Church. The camp and the church are in the same area.

Call the camp at 706-547-3070 or call Joe Walden at 706-829-3525.
