McDuffie County Board of Education members met in a called meeting at the Central Office to discuss personnel items Saturday morning.
After the meeting was called to order, a motion was made to go into executive session.
The board came out of executive session approximately one hour later and Chairwoman Georgia Hobbs immediately called for a motion to adjourn the meeting with no further discussion.
At that time, School Superintendent Jim LeBrun interrupted and told board members he had an item he needed them to vote on -- filling the position of a new assistant principal for Thomson-McDuffie Middle School.
Mr. LeBrun recommended Shantell Crockett for the position, pending the completion of her masters degree, set for Aug. 1.
The board voted unanimously to promote Ms. Crockett. She previously served as graduation coach and adviser of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes at Thomson-McDuffie Junior High School.
In June, former TMJH Assistant Principal Neal Tam was promoted to principal of Thomson-McDuffie Middle School.
Trevor Robinson will remain the other assistant principal.
No other action was taken by board members at the weekend meeting.
