A 50-year-old Thomson man was taken into custody shortly after he reportedly assaulted a relative last week.
The man was identified as Richard Harry Hathcock, of the 2100 block of Wire Road, according to a report filed by McDuffie County Sheriff's Department Deputy Marc Coy.
Mr. Hathcock was arrested in the parking lot of his place of employment and charged with aggravated assault, aggravated battery, driving under the influence and driving without a license on his person, records show. He was jailed in the McDuffie County Law Enforcement Center.
He is accused of assaulting a woman shortly before 6 a.m. on July 14, records filed by Deputy Kerry Johnson show.
The victim told Deputy Johnson that Mr. Hathcock assaulted her by knocking her to the floor with his hands. He reportedly later kicked her about her face while wearing his boots. The victim received a three to four inch cut to her forehead.
After the crime, Mr. Hathcock left the residence.
Deputy Coy later spotted the suspect, driving a Ford F-150 pickup truck pull into the parking lot of a local industry where he works. It was there that Mr. Hathcock was placed under arrest for the assault and subsequent traffic-related offenses.
