A recent assault case in the parking lot of a local business has been tied to gang activity, Thomson Police Chief Joseph D. Nelson says.
Several persons have been taken into custody on criminal charges stemming from the assault. Chief Nelson described some of the suspects as being members of local gangs.
"Some of them are definitely gang members," Chief Nelson said. "They've got to understand we're not going to put up with them breaking the law in Thomson, Ga. When they do, we're going to put them in jail where they belong."
TPD Investigator Capt. Jamie Bridges identified those arrested as:
Tiffany Marie Sallywhite, 19, of the 200 block of Third Street, Thomson, charged with affray;
Joe Winfrey, Jr., 20, of Thomson, aggravated battery and affray;
Marquavious Daniels, 21, of Thomson, affray and discharging a firearm on or near a public street; and
Tiffany Davis, of Thomson, affray.
The suspects were jailed in the McDuffie County Law Enforcement Center.
The charges stem from a recent fight that broke out in the parking lot of the Huddle House in downtown Thomson.
"This kind of behavior is not going to be tolerated in Thomson, Ga.," Chief Nelson said. "Those who want to fight are going to be arrested and go to jail."
