I f you see a group of people all wearing green T-shirts that reveal "Can't talk... gotta run!" laughing together, then you know Thomson Running Club is gathering yet again.
While running with a group is enjoyable, the fellowship and camaraderie these folks experience only adds another level of togetherness. They often get together at local eateries when they're not running.
"I can eat what I want and not worry about it," Jeanette Calvin shared, adding that she loves running and it motivates her.
The club began in June of 2009, when Alicia Brown suggested to Dede Keir that the Family Y should start a running group. Originally designed just to get people comfortable with running outside, they only had four or five members to begin with. Little did they know how it was going to grow into what is now a group of fifteen and still growing. The Thomson Running Club has now participated in races not only in Thomson, but other towns as well.
"Running makes me a better person," Tammy Crawford said.
They even have their own website that people can learn all about the club and learn about upcoming races called www.gotrc.net.
Some of the races they have participated in include: Broad Street Ramble, Brasstown Bald Buster, Phinizy Swamp Stomp, Depot Dash, Warrenton March Hare Affair, Boshears Ground Loop, Crawford Restoration Run, Gasparilla Marathon and New Jersey Marathon. Barry Bennett is the only marathon runner as of yet.
Members of the Thomson Running Club include: Barry Bennett, Jeff Guerrero, Diane Norris, Kelli Brooks, Jeanette Calvin, Robert Nicholas, Jeri Michel Duncan, Eric Keller, Kelsey D'Antignac, Tanya Gowan, Tom Blalock, Tammy Crawford, Carrie Lokey, Alicia Brown, Keryl Frost and Jeffrey Bennett.
They welcome any interested newcomers, so you don't have to be a seasoned professional to run with this group. And remember, it's never too late to join.
Please contact Alicia Brown at Alicia@gotrc.net for more information.
While there is so much more to be said about this jovial group...can't talk now, gotta run!
