Mr. Vernon Briggs
THOMSON, Ga. - Mr. Vernon Briggs, 89, husband of
70 years to Mrs. Marion Turner Briggs of Thomson, entered
into rest, Thursday, August 19, 2010, at the McDuffie
Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services were held from the graveside in Bellevue
Memorial Gardens, Monday, August 23, at 2 p.m.. with the
Rev. Rodney Peavey officiating.
Mr. Briggs, son of the late William R. and Gladys Prather
Briggs, was a lifelong resident of the Augusta area and had
retired from the King Mill. He was an avid Braves baseball
fan and a saved Christian. His family said he was an angel of
light that showed his children the right road to life.
He was preceded in death by his sons, Carl H. Briggs and
Ronald Wayne Briggs.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons and
daughters- in-law, Victor and Martha Briggs of Martinez,
and Benny and Lynda Briggs of Harlem; daughters and
sons-in- law, Shirley and Donald Hicks of Thomson, and
LaVerne and Gary Lord of Augusta; 11 grandchildren, 26
great-grandchildren; and four great great-grandchildren.
Chance & Hydrick Funeral Directors was in charge of
arrangements.
