FOR MORE INFO: Thomson High School will administer the Georgia High School Writing Test on Wednesday, September 29. This is the main administration for all juniors and others planning to graduate in May 2012. It is also a retest opportunity for candidates for May 2011 graduation. Former students wishing to take this test must pre-register no later than September 10 by calling 706-986-4222. Per state testing rules, photo identification is required of all test takers who are not currently enrolled at THS. No cell phones, PDAs, or other electronic devices are permitted in testing rooms.

FOR MORE INFO: This option is for Thomson High School students who have previously failed a required course for graduation. All courses are computer-based, self-paced, and aligned with the Georgia Performance Standards. The cost for each course is $50 per half-unit attempted, and students may register in the guidance office. FOR MORE INFO: Supporting Knowledge for Youth Experiences, a new organization that has as its primary focus to expand the understanding and knowledge for the youth (grades 6-12) of McDuffie County and surrounding counties by providing a wide range of opportunities. This organization will provide enrichment experiences through college tours, visits to museums and historical sites and workshops. The first trip will be Saturday, September 11. This trip will include college tours to Benedict College, Columbia, S.C., Claflin University and South Carolina State University, Orangeburg, S.C. FOR MORE INFO: Presented by the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension, this is a six-week educational series to provide family caregivers with tools to increase their self-care and confidence. Caregivers care for others who need assistance with daily living and emotional support as they face chronic illness, disability or death. A participation fee of $35 includes "The Caregiver Helpbook," which is required, and will be accepted at the Extension Office, 116 Main St., Thomson. Class size is limited to 15. Registration deadline is Thursday, July 22. Past class participants indicate improved emotions, including reduced anger, guilt and depression.
