Jack-O-Lanters on Journal even is set

Mainstreet McDuffie has been busy getting things ready for the second annual Jack-O-Lanterns on Journal event scheduled for Oct. 23 from 5 to 9 p.m. located on Journal Street.

As part of this event, the "FallCrows" will once again be lining the streets of downtown Thomson.

The "FallCrows" will start lining the streets on Oct. 1 and we are looking forward to what our local businesses have planned for this year. We will be lining the streets from the railroad tracks to the library this year, giving plenty of room for everyone to participate.

The judging for the "FallCrows" will take place on Oct. 16, so all businesses interested in being part of the contest need to have their "FallCrow" in place no later than Oct. 15.

This contest is open to any business in McDuffie County and provides a cheap, fun way to advertise.

The spots are on a first-come bases and will be assigned by the committee members.

For more information on the guidelines and to obtain a registration form, please contact the Chamber of Commerce at 706-597-1000 or

In order to pull off such an event as this, volunteers are needed. If you or your organization would like to volunteer please email us. This would be a great way to get your name out and show your support for what this town is trying to do.

Along with the "FallCrows" we are also inviting local businesses to participate in Jack-O-Lanterns on Journal by having a game booth where you decide the game and someone from your business runs it.

The Y-130 is planning another awesome haunted house this year and we already have some business volunteering to do hair coloring, tattoos, putt-putt and bite-the-donut.

As you can see, this year's event is going to be even bigger and better than last year.

We can't reveal everything to you at once as new "tricks" and "treats" are being planned but we would love to have the support of everyone in the community.

If you are those without young children, "Platters", Hogie Joes" and "The Big Dipper" will be having specials during the event so come out and enjoy good food and good fellowship as you sit back and watch downtown Thomson come to life. Many of you may not be aware, but we have over 1000 people attend the event last year and we expecting even more this year.

Something new we are doing this year is looking for vendors to put in the park area between "Thomson Twin Cinema" and "Platters".

If you are interested in being a part of this, please contact with a description of your item and your contact information.

We are looking for original and fall like items to go along with the event. There have already been some signed up for specialty candies, fall flowers and more.
