A 45-year-old Thomson man remained in critical condition in an Augusta hospital on Monday following a motorcycle crash in McDuffie County last Saturday, authorities said.
Senior Trooper John Freeman of the Georgia State Patrol post in Grovetown identified the victim as Mark Murphy, of the 100 block of Pinedale Drive.
Mr. Murphy still was listed in critical condition on Monday at the Medical College of Georgia Hospital, according to Denise Parish, a hospital spokeswoman.
The victim was treated at the scene by personnel with the McDuffie County Emergency Medical Services and firefighters/first responders with the McDuffie County Fire/Rescue Services.
Mr. Murphy later was airlifted from the scene by a medical helicopter which flew him to MCG.
The mishap, which occurred about 3:30 p.m. last Saturday, happened on Margaret's Road near Thomson, Senior Trooper Freeman said.
Mr. Murphy had been traveling north, headed towards Whiteoak Road when he lost control of his Harley-Davidson motorcycle while rounding a curve. He was thrown from the motorcycle and landed near a barbed-wire fence.
