Local authorities have arrested a 31-year-old Thomson man in connection with a series of recent crimes, including sexual assault on a young woman. The victim's 1-year-old child was in the bed at the time of the attack.
Investigator Al Reeves, of the McDuffie County Sheriff's Department, identified the suspect as Lincoln Clinton McGahee, of the 900 block of Scott Court. Mr. McGahee, whose nickname is "Link," has been charged with burglary, aggravated assault and rape, the investigator told local reporters during a press conference on Monday afternoon.
McGahee, who was jailed on unrelated criminal charges at the McDuffie County Law Enforcement Center last Friday, appeared before a local judge for hi bond hearing on Tuesday. During that hearing, he was advised of the charges against him, as well as his right to legal counsel.
Investigator Reeves said the unrelated charge of violation of the Georgia Controlled Substances Act for trafficking cocaine had been filed against Mr. McGahee by Thomson police.
Mr. McGahee is accused of breaking into the residence of a young woman in her 20s. Investigator Reeves said entry into the residence was made through a bathroom window.
Once inside, he proceeded to the victim's bedroom where he sexually assaulted her as her 1-year-old child laid in the bed, Investigator Reeves said.
Following the attack, the intruder produced a knife and put it to the chest of the victim, telling her he would kill her if she told anyone.
Additional charges may be forthcoming in the case since the investigation still is ongoing, Investigator Reeves said.
