Couple has to be freed from truck after wreck

An Augusta couple was injured after the driver lost control of his small pickup truck and overturned in the Happy Valley community of McDuffie County last Thursday morning.

The couple had to be freed from the truck by rescue workers using specialized cutting tools.

Trooper First Class Rich Fishel of the Georgia State Patrol post in Grovetown identified the couple as Marion Wesley McClain, 50 and Sheri Lavonda McClain, 49, of the 4000 block of Madison Lane.

The couple was treated at the scene by personnel with the McDuffie County Emergency Medical Services and firefighters/first responders with the McDuffie County Fire/Rescue Services.

They later were taken by ambulances to the Medical College of Georgia Hospital in Augusta.

The wreck occurred in front of a residence at 4599 Georgia Highway 17 shortly before 11 a.m.

Trooper Fishel said Mr. McClain had been traveling northbound in his 1978 Toyota pickup truck when he ran off the road, over corrected, struck a culvert and overturned at least once.

No charges were filed against the driver.
