Two more arrested for gang-related activity

Authorities have arrested and charged two more persons in connection with various criminal charges stemming from gang activities in McDuffie County.

Investigator Al Reeves of the McDuffie County Sheriff's Department identified the latest persons arrested as Laquan Tyrell "LTA" Abney, 23, of the 1000 block of Huntley Circle, Thomson and 15-year-old Contravious Darrell "Droopy" Hogan, of the 400 block of Anderson Avenue, Thomson.

The two were taken into custody on Tuesday, Sept. 14 by Investigators Reeves and Larry Adaway. The teenager was arrested at Thomson High School, while Mr. Abney was arrested on Old Washington Road.

Mr. Abney was jailed in the McDuffie County Law Enforcement Center, while the teenager was taken to the Regional Youth Development Center in Augusta.

Investigator Reeves said Mr. Hogan, who is being treated as an adult, was charged with a recent home invasion/armed robbery of a man at Heritage Apartments on Noble Street in Thomson. Mr. Abney, the investigator added, was charged with the same offenses stemming from the same incident, as well as other unrelated charges.

Three others were arrested last week -- two of whom are self-proclaimed members of a local gang.
