The R.L. Norris High school Class of 1970 celebrated their 40th Class Reunion with a three-day event beginning on September 3, 2010 and ending on September 5, 2010. The class began their celebration on Friday, September 3, with a "Re-acquaintenance Night" at the Monterey Community Center. They enjoyed a night of sharing and reminiscing old memories.
On Saturday, September 4, the class relived their 1970 Prom recapturing the theme "An Evening in Paris." The decor really captured the theme with candlelight and a portrayal of the Eiffel Tower. The ladies were dolled up in their formal wear while the men were handsomely dressed in suits. Elizabeth Catering Service provided the exquisite meal for the evening and music was provided by the famous Bodie Cummings. Though Bodie can bring all the entertainment one needs, the class chose to add their own taste of entertainment -- the Supremes and The Mighty Temptations (a revised version of course).
On Sunday, September 5, the Class of 1970 celebration culminated with a "Gospel Explosion" with four classmates sharing an inspirational and dynamic message each (Rev. Glennie Olive, Rev. Daniel Ramsey, Rev. Sylvester Moore and Missionary Susie Moton).
This was such an appropriate and uplifting way to end this great celebration of 40 years, as the classmates dressed in special designed "Ram" t-shirts and jeans said their farewells.
A special thanks go to the McDuffie County Board of Education for the honor of allowing the Class of 1970 to host the events at the former R.L. Norris High School and to those who supported their effort, especially the educators who came to share with the class.
