Local medical and health facilities have joined together to show their support in the
fight against breast cancer.
Every Friday in the month
of October, they will be
wearing "Fight Like a Girl"
pink t-shirts to work.
"Each and every one of
us eventually are affected
by breast cancer, or know
someone who is," said April
Norman, who thought of the
program.
Mrs. Norman is the
director of operations at
Regional Open MRI in
Thomson, where they are
selling the t-shirts to anyone
who would like to join the
effort. Mrs. Norman said
Regional Open MRI does not
do breast MRI's, so there is
no advantage to them to sell
the shirts.
"It's just us all coming
together for a good cause,"
she said.
Employees at McDuffie
Regional Medical Center and
the Family Y helped Mrs.
Norman with the program
and will be wearing the
shirts every Friday, also.
Mrs. Norman said several
area doctors' offi ce staff will
wear the shirts, as well as
employees at the county tax
offi ce and commissioners
office.
"I was riding down the
road, and I actually had
a genius moment," Mrs.
Norman said as she explained
how the idea came to be.
"And it ballooned in 24
hours."
The t-shirts are available
at the Regional Open MRI
offi ce in the old Winn Dixie
shopping center on the
Augusta Highway. The shirts
are $10, and are available
in Large and X-Large only,
although other sizes may be
ordered. All proceeds go to
the Breast Cancer Research
Foundation.
"I encourage everyone
to show their community
support and help us make the
donations for breast cancer
research," Mrs. Norman said.
