Job fair is scheduled for Oct. 15

The Georgia Department of Labor's Thomson Career Center, along with several other local organizations, will sponsor a job fair for employers and job seekers in the area.

The event will be held Friday, Oct. 15, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Thomson Campus of Augusta Technical College, located at 388 Tech Dr., Thomson in McDuffie County.

Other event sponsors include the labor department's local Vocational Rehabilitation Office, local Workforce Investment Board, Thomson-McDuffie Chamber of Commerce, Augusta Tech, and East Central Georgia Employer Committee.

Employer committees are groups of local business representatives who establish and maintain working relationships between employers and Georgia Department of Labor Career Centers.

The job fair will feature a number of employers, educational institutions, and resource agencies that provide assistance to job seekers.

Some employers will be hiring, while others will be discussing possible future employment opportunities with the job seekers and other organizations will be providing educational and other resources. Applicants should bring copies of résumés and be prepared to fill out company applications and interview for available job openings. Certified résumé writers will be available to assist job seekers.

Among employers, educational institutions, and resource agencies expected to participate in the job fair are Central Savannah River Area Electrical Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee, Shaw Group, Augusta Staffing, Barron Human Resources, Georgia Iron Works, Lighthouse Nursing, Pizza Hut, Rescare, Thomson Plastics, T-Mobile, Today's Staffing, Two State Construction, Sandersville Technical College, and Shaw Industries.

For more information about the job fair, or employers wanting to register, contact Bob Keith of the Thomson Career Center at (706) 595-3578, or Angela Lowe of the Vocational Rehabilitation Office at (706) 597-8575.
