Mrs. Billie Davidson Powell
February 4, 1935 - October 3, 2010
THOMSON, Ga. - With
tremendous sorrow, we report the loss of our dear mother and best
friend, Billie Davidson Powell, 75, of Thomson.
She was the wife of the late William Bunyan "Billy" Powell
of Thomson. Billie was born February 4, 1935, in Thomson,
and she died October 3, 2010, at Emory University Hospital
in Atlanta. She was the daughter of the late William Reynolds
"Bill" Davidson and Fannie Mae Williams of Thomson. Billie was
a life-long resident of Thomson. She was a deeply devoted mother
and grandmother which was evident through everything she did.
Her love and devotion was especially evident during holidays and
special occasions. Since she loved to cook and serve enormous,
delicious meals, it was not unusual that she would be found in
her kitchen days before the event in preparation with the greatest
devotion of care and love. She took great pride in preparing dishes
that not only tasted wonderful, but she also prepared enough to
keep her family well-fed for days. She was very well-known for
her pies and cakes, especially her red velvet cake. Her family was
central in her life. J
After graduating from high school, Billie worked for 24 years
as an X-ray technician and Supervisor at the Thomson-McDuffie
County Hospital. She continued to work in radiology with
Augusta Orthopedic Specialists for 23 years until she retired in
2008. Billie was very active in the Moose Lodge of Thomson for 35
years, serving as Recorder for the Women of the Moose, Thomson
Chapter for five years, and Recorder for the Women of the Moose,
Macon Lodge for three years. Also, she earned the Academy of
Friendship of Women's Auxiliary. She travelled across Georgia
and to international conventions in her service. She helped raise
funds for Moose Heart and the Senior Citizens of Moose Haven.
She was loved by all wherever she went. She loved gardening, and
her home and yard reflected her affinity for flowers during every
season of the year. She spent countless hours devoting herself to her
beautiful roses and other various flowers. She enjoyed fishing and
spending leisure time at Clarke Hill Lake where she was a longtime
member of Raysville Boat Club. Billie was the dear friend
and constant companion of William B. "Bill" Braddy of Thomson
for over 20 years, and she was well-loved by his brothers, sisters
and family.
She is survived by her children, William DeWayne Powell and
his wife, Angie Huff, of Thomson; Teresa Powell Farr and her
husband, Rev. Tommy Farr, of LaGrange, GA. She is also survived
by four grandsons: William Dalton Sidney Powell of Thomson;
Benjamin Thomas Farr and his wife Nikki of Pensacola, Florida;
Bradley Phillip Farr and his wife Julie of LaGrange, GA; and Brian
Daniel Farr of LaGrange, GA. She is also survived by one greatgranddaughter,
Caleigh Sage Farr of Pensacola, Florida.
Her funeral was held Wednesday, October 6, 2010, at 1 p.m.
in the Chapel of Curtis Funeral Home, and graveside service
followed.
