Thomson High recorded their second shutout of the season with a 42-0 thumping of the Harlem Bulldogs. THS controlled the game on 54 carries for 281 yards and the defense allowed just 87 yards on the ground.
"We have found out we can run the ball better than we can throw it so that's what we do," said head coach Luther Welsh.
And run it they did with nine Thomson players touching the ball from the backfield. They were led by QB Josh Jones with 57 yards with two TD's and he also had 25 yards passing with two completions. Chris Jordan finished the game with 45 yards and a score.
Thomson took the opening kickoff at the 22. Several plays later Mariez Hamilton got outside and ran for a 19-yard TD. Talles Cardosa booted the PAT.
On Thomson's next series Dontavis Brown injured an ankle after a 14-yard run and was out for the rest of the game.
"He's been nursing that ankle for two weeks now. Hopefully he'll be ready next week," said Welsh.
The drive continued for the visitors with Shawn Bonner scoring with 2:05 left in the first. Cardosa, who was perfect on the night with 7 PAT's booted the extra point for a 14-0 score.
Thomson's other two scores in the first half included a 2-yard run by Jones and a 7-yard run by Jordan. The half ended when Jalen Jackson intercepted a Harlem pass.
The third quarter score came on a 10-yard run by Jones and the last score of the night was a 3-yard run by Mariez Hamilton.
Thomson will be back at the Brickyard this Friday night to face Westside on Homecoming night. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
