Every year, one teacher at six of McDuffie County's seven schools is chosen by their peers to be that school's Teacher of the Year. All of them are honored at an annual banquet held the end of October.
The banquet includes the Teachers of the Year, their family, friends and administrators, members of the McDuffie County Board of Education, and usually is emceed by a local television media person.
An independent panel of judges visited each of the school winner's classrooms on Monday, Oct. 18 to observe them teaching and conduct a short interview. Scores from the panelists will be used to select McDuffie County's Teacher of the Year. The county's Teacher of the Year will be named at the banquet on Monday, Oct. 25 at Thomson-McDuffie Middle School. The county's overall winner goes on to compete for the 2012 Georgia Teacher of the Year.
The McDuffie Mirror would like to congratulate each Teacher of the Year.
