After a full week of making memories, she will never forget the ending. Emily Ellen Henderson was crowned Homecoming Queen of Briarwood Academy last Friday night.
"It was just a great feeling," Emily said. "I really don't know how to describe it. It was very exciting, and just a fun night. It felt great to be honored as homecoming queen."
The coronation took place during halftime of the Buccaneers' homecoming game against David Emanuel Academy. The Bucs defeated the Eagles 22-12.
The football team's victory capped off a week of fun, according to Emily.
"I know that next year, I'm going to miss spirit week," she said. "We kind of went all out this year since it was our last year."
The festivities included duct tape day, color day, pajama day, twin day, extreme red and black day and a powder puff game. Emily said duct tape day was her favorite, when everyone wore "clothes" they'd made out of duct tape. On color day, she said each grade had a color, and the Class of 2011 was pink.
"Everybody had to wear pink, and some of the guys wore tutus," she said with a laugh.
On twin day, Emily said she and a classmate both dressed like loggers.
"I'm only 5'5" and I was a logger with a guy who's over six foot," she said, still laughing.
Emily is the daughter of Bernie and Mimi Henderson of Washington. Her brother, Zack, is a 2005 graduate of Briarwood.
