Dearing Town Council looks into missed trash pick-ups

Many Dearing residents have taken their trash out the past few weeks to no avail. Dearing Town Council members and Dearing Mayor Sean Kelley discussed some new problems with the town's trash pick up by Advanced Disposal Services.

'They've done great up until this point," Mayor Kelley said. "To my knowledge, they've never missed before. ... But, this needs to be squared away quickly before we have any more problems. People are paying for pick up, so they deserve to have it."

Mayor Kelley said residents need to understand that they should all have two cans -- a green can for yard debris and a gray can for household trash. In the past, people could put the trash in either can, and it would still get picked up. But that no longer is the case.

"Trash will be picked up only if it's in the gray can," Mayor Kelley said. "Otherwise, it gets left."

Also, Mayor Kelley said the cans have to be out on the side of the road by 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday mornings.

Yard debris pick up (green can) ends the last week of November, and will start again in March.

Anyone who needs a gray can may contact Dearing town clerk Judy Reeves from 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. every Thursday at 706-556-0384, or leave a note in the drop box at town hall, or email townofdearing@ bellsouth.net.
