Sports bar's alcohol license is revoked

There is now one less establishment with an alcoholic beverage license in McDuffie County.

The owner of 30 Rounds Sports Bar, Ronald Smalley, had his license revoked by the McDuffie County Board of Commissioners after a host of complaints were received by sheriff's deputies and Gail Newsome, county code enforcement officer.

"Mr. Smalley has repeatedly failed to comply with regulations after he has been addressed with the violations," Ms. Newsome told county commissioners during a meeting last Tuesday night.

She pointed out that it has been a continuous problem with Mr. Smalley advertising free unlimited drinks on Facebook and violating other ordinances involving such things as loud music.

Ms. Newsome pointed out that it becomes costly when she and deputies have to continue to go there to enforce certain regulations.

She noted that such is costly for her office, as well as the sheriff's office.

Ms. Newsome recommended that county commissioners revoke the alcoholic beverage license, as well as the application to renew his license.

"He (Mr. Smalley) was forewarned," Ms. Newsome said. "He was not blindsided."

Commissioners voted unanimously to her recommendation.
