A 50-year-old Thomson man was flown by helicopter to an Augusta hospital after being seriously injured in a fall at a plant in McDuffie County.
Sandy Yelton, office manager at Hoover Treated Wood Products, identified the injured man as Nathaniel "Deacon" Jones, of Michael Street. Mr. Jones, an employee at the plant for the past 25 years, was taken to the Medical College of Georgia Hospital.
Mr. Jones, who pastors a small church in Mesena, reportedly received leg and possibly internal injuries after he fell into a five-foot grease pit, Mrs. Yelton said.
"He experienced some dizziness before the accident happened," she said.
Mr. Jones was treated at the scene by personnel with the McDuffie County Emergency Medical Services and firefighters/first responders with the McDuffie County Fire/Rescue Services.
