Three men charged in the Dec. 19 shooting death of 24-year-old Kenneth James "Kenny" Johnson still are jailed in the McDuffie County Law Enforcement Center.
Authorities have identified them as:
Dexter Jones, 21, of the 3500 block of Augusta Manor Apartments, off Mike Padgett Highway in south Augusta;
Calvin Curtis, 19, of the 1000 block of Nathan Jones Circle, Harlem; and
Jatheus Bennett, 17, of the 2800 block of Pine Forest Drive, Dearing.
Each has been charged with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, according to McDuffie County Sheriff Logan Marshall.
New information has surfaced regarding the fatal shooting of Mr. Johnson. He died while in surgery at Medical College of Georgia Hospital in Augusta.
While being treated at the emergency room of McDuffie Regional Medical Center in Thomson, Mr. Johnson told McDuffie County Sheriff's Office Deputy Alan Baldwin that while he was riding his four-wheeler, a silver, midsize, four-door car pulled up beside him.
"A black male then pointed a silver handgun out the window and shot him twice in the chest," Deputy Baldwin said in his report -- a copy of which was obtained by The McDuffie Mirror . "I asked him if he knew the black male and he stated he didn't."
Deputy Baldwin said he also spoke with Krystal Johnson, the victim's ex-wife.
The deputy said in his report that he asked Ms. Johnson if her ex-husband told her who shot him and that she said that he did not.
