Local and state authorities were searching Tuesday morning for a man who robbed the Shell convenience store on Washington Road at Interstate 20 near Thomson on Monday night.
McDuffie County Sheriff Logan Marshall said no one was injured during the robbery, which happened shortly before 10 p.m.
The robber was described as a black man who got away with an undisclosed amount of money, Sheriff Marshall said.
A deputy sheriff who was nearby responded in about a minute, the sheriff said. Sheriff Marshall said he, too, was on Washington Road at the time and immediately went to the business.
Video surveillance was being examined by authorities Tuesday.
"We're hopeful that we can develop a picture and get that out so the public might be able to help us," said Mike Ayers, the special agent in charge of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Region 7 Office in Thomson.
Sheriff Marshall said that he requested the GBI's assistance and that the case is jointly being investigated.
