MSgt. John J. Lavin (Ret.)
DEARING, Ga. - MSgt. John J. Lavin (Ret.), 89, entered into
rest on December 28, 2010, at his residence in Dearing.
Graveside services were held Friday, December 31, 2010, at 11
a.m. in the Dearing United Methodist Church Cemetery with the
Rev. Kim Hancock officiating.
Mr. Lavin was born in Newark, NJ to the late Patrick J. and
Margaret M. Lavin. He had served 20 years in the United States
Army while raising his family with his former wife, Louise. He was
a Veteran of the Korean War and retired in Augusta in 1962. He
subsequently worked as a Civil Service employee and also at E-Z
Go.
Mr. Lavin was also preceded in death by his sister, Eileen L.
Masini; son John Joseph Lavin (Bro. Aaron, OSB), and his long time
companion Mary Joe Reeves.
Survivors include his children, Margaret (Peggy) O'Brien and
husband Leo of Centreville, VA; Nancy Lavin, Augusta, GA; and
Michael Lavin, Dunwoody, GA. Additional survivors are nephew
Joseph Masini, grandchildren Brad O'Brien (Shelley), Kelly Klein
(Michael), Missy O. Sharpe (Michael), Ryan Lavin , Katie Lavin, and
Will Lavin. He is also survived by eight great grandchildren: Paige
O'Brien; Megan, Lindsay, Ryan , and Mark Kiein; and Nicholas,
Andrew and Natalie Sharpe. He also leaves behind Michael and
Terri Reeves and family, and Curtis and Judy Reeves and family.
Starling Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
